Carol Elaine (Rice) Hertel
Carol Elaine (Rice) Hertel, 80, of Beaverton, Oregon, died July 8, 2010, in Portland. She was born April 25, 1930, in Farnam, Nebraska. She graduated from Farnam High School in 1948.
She worked as a teller in a Gothenburg bank and in the payroll office of the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant in Grand Island, Nebr. before moving with her parents to Hood River, Oregon where she worked in a Hood River bank, as a teller. She married Horace Hertel in 1955. She and her husband owned Vernonia Drug Store for 12 years beginning in the 1960s. She then worked for First Interstate Bank in Forest Grove, Oregon for 10 years as the administrative assistant to the branch manager.
She is survived by her son, Mark of Beaverton, daughter, Diane Monjay of Irvine, Calif., her brother, Dale Rice of Wilsonville, Oregon, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, a daughter, Rhonda Jean in 1958 and a sister, Marjorie Farnstrom in 2010.
A graveside service was at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in The Dalles, Oregon. Visitation was Thursday, July 15, and Friday, July 16, at 1 p.m. at Pegg, Paxson and Springer Chapel in Beaverton.
