Harold L. Herndon
Harold L. Herndon, 63, of Gothenburg died Oct. 6, 2000, at his home.
He was born Oct. 5, 1937, at Moorefield to Arthur and Velna Worley Herndon. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural schools before he became employed in the livestock hauling business. He later attended auctioneer school and was an auctioneer for a number of years. He then bought old homes and renovated them for sale and rental property, which he did until his health declined.
On July 21, 1975, he married Jane Miller Elfgren at Lexington. They recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. He enjoyed fishing and doing wood work.
Mr. Herndon is survived by his wife; his children, Maxine (Leon) Jelinek of Kearney and children, Jeanne, Jana, Laura, Lynisha, Derek, Dalayna, Ryan, Rylyssa, Mashayla, Morgan and Kara, Gay (Patrick) Keough of Gibbon and children, Raimie, Heidi, Weston, Landon and Katie, Henry (Kayla) Elfgren of Fort Collins, Colo., and children, Devin and Kaleena, Luanne Leach of Shelton and children, Matt, Emily, Andrew, Rebecca and Nathan, Paul (Jill) Elfgren of Des Moines, Iowa, and Varrel (Sandi) Herndon of Mesa, Ariz., and children, Tyler and Timothy; his father of Moorefield; and two brothers, Fay and family of North Platte and Joe and family of Gothenburg.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg with the Revs. Larry Viter and Roger Miller officiating. Inurnment will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
The body was cremated. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family will be receiving friends at their home today.
