Arthur Herndon
Arthur Herndon, 97, of Gothenburg, formerly of Moorefield, died Aug. 21, 2011, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
He was born July 28, 1914, in Moorefield to Lewis and Vella (Todd) Herndon. Art attended country school, graduating the 8th grade from Pleasant Ridge.
Art married Velna Worley on July 7, 1934, in Oberlin, Kan. To this union five sons where born, Homer Lee, Harold, Fay, Del and Joe.
They farmed around the Moorefield area until 1988, when they moved to North Platte. In 2007, Art moved to Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Art served on the Moorefield Cemetery Board for many years. He was a HAM radio operator and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying small airplanes.
Art is survived by two sons, Fay (Linda) Herndon, of North Platte, Joe (Patti) Herndon, of Gothenburg; daughter-in-law, Jane Herndon, of Gothenburg; sister, Vernell Baker, of North Platte; sister-in-law, Wilma White, of North Platte; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 16 great great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Velna, in 1995; and three sons, Homer Lee, Harold and Del.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Moorefield Cemetery.
Register book will be available for signing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 10th St, Gothenburg, which is in charge of arrangements.
