Liona ‘Onie’ M. Hamel

Liona “Onie” M. Hamel, 87, of North Platte, died Nov. 24, 2006, at Centennial Park Retirement Village.

She was born on Nov. 10, 1919, in Farnam to Claude D. and Fern Mary Hurley Clement.

She lived in Hastings for 21 years before moving to North Platte. Onie enjoyed dancing, crocheting and was an avid bingo player. She loved to tell stories and to make people laugh. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and all of the people she made laugh.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Richard) Perkins of North Platte and Penny (Gary) Stephens of Lincoln; six sons, Bob (Cherry) Thrash of Amarillo, Texas, Larry Machan of Torrington, Wyo., Jim Thrash of Lufkin, Texas, Mark (Marcelle) Hamel of Lakin, Kan., Mick (Cora) Hamel of North Platte and Hastings and Terry (Kris) Christlieb of Farmers Branch, Texas; four sisters, Ora McMichael of Farnam, Clara Donner of Grand Island, Dorothy Lange of Fremont and Delores Miller of North Platte; a sister-in-law, Peg (Jerry) Fedderson of Gothenburg; twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, two brothers [Emerald, Wayne], a sister [Eva] and a granddaughter.

A memorial has been established in her name and online condolences can be made at www.adamsswanson.com.

Celebration of life services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at Adams & Swanson Chapel with the Rev. Mark Hamel officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today and Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
