Florence L. Greenlee

Florence L. Greenlee, 99, of Columbia, Ill., formerly of Jesup, Iowa, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 in Columbia.

She was born May 26, 1914, in Farnam, Neb., daughter of William and Hannah Amstutz Wharton. She married Frank M. Greenlee on July 18, 1935, in Denver, Colo. He died in 1976.

Mrs. Greenlee attended high school at Farnam, Neb. graduating in 1931, and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She then taught school for several years in the sandhills of Nebraska and near Farnam. She taught piano for many years in Jesup and later was secretary to the superintendent of the Jesup Public School until 1979, at which time she retired. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Jesup, and attended Bethany United Methodist Church, Columbia.

Survived by: a daughter, Sue (Don) Barlow of Columbia; a granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.

Preceded in death by: four sisters, Naomi Farris, Helen Wharton, Bessie Vig and Martha Black; and a brother, Harold Wharton.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Cedar Crest Cemetery, both in Jesup. White Funeral Home, Jesup, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to Bethany United Methodist Church, Columbia, Ill., or First United Methodist Church, Jesup.
