William H. Galloway
The following article taken from the Ripley (New York) Review,
in its issue of July 10th, gives an account of the death of
William H. Galloway, well known to the early settlers of this
community.
William H. Galloway, a native of Ripley who spent the greater
part of his life here, passed away at his home W. Main street,
on Thursday, July 3, 1919, after an illness of more than a year.
Death was due to creeping paralysis. He was aged 64 years, two
months and five days.
Mr. Galloway was of Irish descent, his parents having been born
in Ireland, coming to this country early in life.
He had followed farming practically all of his life, which, with
the exception of about 12 years in Nebraska, had all been lived
in Ripley. While in Nebraska, he homesteaded a section of land
and had succeeded in making it into a good farm before selling
He has owned several farms in Ripley at different times.
The deceased is survived by his wife and two daughters; Mrs.
Helen Gray and Miss Mary Galloway of Erie; also two brothers;
David Galloway of Mentor, Ohio, and James Galloway of Ripley.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock from the
last home, in charge of Rev. R. G. Hildred and interment was in
Quincy Rural cemetery.
Among those here to attend the funeral were a cousin, Frank
Galloway of Pittsburg, and Mr. and Mrs. William Phear of
Sherman, New York.
