Delma Ruth Foote
Delma Ruth Foote, age 85, of Maywood, entered into her rest, Friday, June 15, 2012 at her home. She was born March 21, 1927 to Frank Earl Walker and Clara Faye (Knotwell) Walker in Wauneta Nebraska.
The family moved to Imperial where she attended school, graduating from Chase County High School in 1944. She worked at the Chase County Welfare Office for two years before moving to Curtis where she worked at the Frontier County Welfare Office.
She married Grover Thurman Foote, Jr. of rural Farnam at the Methodist church in Imperial on July 26, 1947. They moved to northeast Hayes County to farm until 1987. Delma attended night schools and summer classes to earn a teachers’ certificate. She attended colleges at McCook, Kearney, Hastings and Lincoln to renew certificates and further her education.
They were blessed with two daughters, Sue and Peggy. They were members of Saint John Lutheran Church at White before transferring to Saint John Lutheran at Curtis. She taught schools in rural Hayes and Lincoln Counties for six years before the many years at the Maywood Elementary 5th and 6th grades. She also taught Sunday school classes and pre-catechism classes.
Delma retired in 1987 when Thurman retired from farming. They moved to Maywood. She became a lifetime member of Nebraska Garden Club and was the editor of their state publication for twelve years. She was a member of the local garden club also. She trained to become a flower show judge and was the State Chairman of Accredited Judges Council. She was also a lifetime member of the National Education Association.
Survivors include her husband Thurman of Maywood; a daughter Alyce Sue (Jack) Callaway of Ainsworth; son-in-law, Dennis Rosenblad of South Dakota; a grandson, Travis J. Callaway of Mission, S.D.; two sisters Annabelle Rosen and France Ek; two brothers, Dwight and Gary G. Walker; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends remain to lament her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Peggy L. Rosenblad and two brothers, Virgil and Lyle Edwin Walker. A memorial has been established to the Saint John Scholarship Foundation or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, and online condolences may be made at www.adamsswanson.com. Cremation was chosen.
A memorial service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, June 22nd at the Saint John Lutheran Church in Curtis with the Reverend Derrick Brown officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Maywood Cemetery. Those wishing to sign her register may do so Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
