C. R. "Doc" Edson

C.R. “Doc” Edson, 97, of Fremont died Saturday, Aug. 8 , 2009, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

He was born May 28, 1912, in Poole to Ivan and Anna (Tatem) Edson. He was a graduate of Farnam High School. He joined the Nebraska State Patrol and was stationed in Norfolk, McCook, North Platte, Columbus and then came to Fremont in 1942 for a total of eight years. He then started his own interior decorating business, retiring in 1987.

Doc married Madolene Hudson on May 5, 1935, in Gothenburg. She died April 25, 2006.

He was a member of First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Fremont, Pathfinder Wood Carvers and the National Wood Carvers Association. He was a lifetime member of the Painting and Decorating Contractors Association. He was an avid golfer and former member of the Izaak Walton League.

Survivors include: a daughter, Patricia “Pat” (and husband, Don) Stafford of Fremont; a son, Larry (and wife, Regina) Edson of Parsons, Kan.; a sister, Trina Stevenson of Hershey; a grandchild; five stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Anna (Tatem) Edson; two brothers, Earl and George Edson; three sisters, Grace Schultheiss, Dorothy Craig and Ruby Carmin; and a grandchild, Vicki Anspach.

The memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Fremont with the Rev. Terri Akkerman officiating. Friends may sign the register book from noon to 5 p.m. today at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial will be at a later date in the church columbarium.

A memorial has been established to First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ.
