Obituary Collection
Ruby Esther (Edson) Carmin

Funeral services for Ruby Esther Carmin, 82, were held March 5 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Douglas, with Reverend Carol A. Prochaska officiating. Interment took place in the family plot at the Douglas Park Cemetery.

Ruby Carmin, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother died Feb. 25, 2007, at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

A long-time Douglas resident, Ruby was the daughter of Ivan Roscoe and Anna (Tatem) Edson. She was born on Oct. 28, 1924, in Farnam, Neb. She attended Kearney State College and Denver University. After receiving her teaching certificate, she moved to Douglas, where she taught second grade. It was while teaching that she met George Eastman Carmin, a high school coach, teacher and local rancher. After their marriage on March 1, 1947, they moved to the ranch in Orin where they resided for the better part of 60 years. It was there they raised their four daughters.

After George was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1974, Ruby dedicated her life to his care. It was during this time that they began to spend their winters in Borrego Springs, Calif.

The highlight of her life was her grandchildren. She spent countless hours attending athletic events, school programs, and concerts. She found great happiness in her children and grandchildrenÕs joys and accomplishments.

Ruby was a member of Chapter N.P.E.O., the Congregational Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of Douglas Community Club and Douglas Sorority. She was an avid reader and bridge player and enjoyed golfing with her many friends.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George, on Aug. 7, 2003; brothers, Earl and George Edson; and sisters, Dorothy Craig and Grace Schultheiss.

She is survived by her brother, Roscoe 'Doc' Edson of Fremont, Neb.; sister, Trena Stevenson of Hershey, Neb.; daughters, Paula and her husband, David Kreycik of Douglas, Georgia Carmin of Laramie, Jacque and her husband, Craig Goodrich of Douglas, and Donna and her husband, Ed Ricks of Douglas; grandchildren, Nichole Rider, Jennifer and her husband, TC Page, Michael Rider, Bart Goodrich, Brianne Goodrich, Kass Ricks, Calley Ricks, Garrett Ricks, Robynn Palmer, Jay and Anna Palmer and Brian Palmer; and great-grandchildren, Kayle Palmer, Paige Palmer, Jackson Page and Colby Buus.

Pallbearers were Michael Rider, Jay Palmer, Bart Goodrich, Garrett Ricks, Kayle Palmer and Geoffrey Gorman.

A memorial to the George Carmin Youth Athletic Fund in care of Converse County Bank, P.O. Box 689, Douglas, would be appreciated by the family.
