Clayton E. Britton
Clayton Edward "Britt" Britton, 73, of North Platte died Tuesday night at a local nursing home. He was born July 3, 1915 to Hartley and Hazel Tillotson Britton, north of Sterling, Colo. In the early 1920s with his family, he moved to Farnam where he attended school, graduating with the class of 1934. He was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad and later the Civil Conservation Corps. helping with the construction of the Sutherland Reservoir.
He married Lucille Johnson Nov. 7, 1942 in Gothenburg.
He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in England. After his discharge, he was employed by Safeway Food Stores for 32 years. He retired in 1977.
Mr. Britton was a lifetime member of the BPOE with 49 years membership; and member of the VFW Post 1504, American Legion 163 and the Buffalo Bill Sports Club.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille; six sons, Charles of Pineallas Park, Fla., and Robert and wife Lynnette, Edward and wife Mary June, Larry and wife Sherri, David and wife Konnie and Michael all of North Platte; a daughter, Lisa Wing of Omaha; one daughter-in-law Thelma Britton of Las Vegas, Nev., one son-in-law, Charles Wing of Omaha; 12 grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joseph.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. James E. Clarke officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors.
A memorial has been established for a summer camp scholarship fund to Camp Opal Springs of the Tri-Trials Council/Boy Scouts of America.
Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
