C. Wayne Bergsten
C. Wayne Bergsten, 81, of Minden died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Kearney County Health Services-Long Term Care Unit in Minden.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Minden with the Rev. Nicholas Baker officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the church. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today at Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden.
He was born March 12, 1928, near Norman to Elmer and Mary (King) Bergsten.
On Aug. 24, 1957, he married Mary Wrin [graduate of Farnam High, 1945] in Minden.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Laurie LaVoie and her husband, Stephen, of Kearney and Karen Shumate of Minden; and grandchildren, Amber Miller and her husband, Bryan, Michael Albers and Nicole LaVoie.
He grew up in the Norman area and attended school in Norman then graduated from Minden High School in 1946. He attended Hastings Business College for two years and then went to work for Schwarz Paper in Lincoln.
He and his wife made their home in Minden, where he began working for Pioneer Village. He retired from Pioneer Village in 1995. While at the Village, he worked in maintenance and was its photographer.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Minden, the Minden Lions Club and had served as a district governor for the Lions. He was also a member of the Kearney County Historical Society and the State Genealogy Society.
He was a very neat, gentle and meticulous man with a very even temperament. He also enjoyed yard work and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Delbert.
