Lloyd Gareth "Gary" Beery
Lloyd Gareth "Gary" Beery, 71 of Greeley, formerly of Curtis, lost his life on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, after a long fight with MS and cancer. Gary was born to Lloyd and Gladys Beery in Farnam, April 22, 1937, and lived there until the age of 7 when his family moved to Curtis. He graduated from the Curtis UNSA High School in 1954, attended the U of Nebraska and then graduated from the U of Wyoming in 1959 with a BA in Education.
While earning his degree, Gary worked summers at the U of NE Experimental Station in North Platte, where he met and married his lifetime love, Marlynn Phillips on June 8, 1958.
Gary's teaching career started in 1959 in Sundance, Wyo. In 1961, Gary and his family moved to Brighton, Colo., where he taught and became the Assistant Principal of North Junior High until 1973. Moving to Hayden, Colo., Gary became the Principal of Hayden High. In 1976, they moved to Kersey, Colo., where Gary assumed the position of Principal of Platte Valley High until 1981 when he became the Assistant Superintendent. In 1988, Gary retired due to Multiple Sclerosis. Since retiring, Gary and Marlynn have enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad with family and friends, as well as attending rallies in their "Holiday Rambler." Gary and Marlynn celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2008.
Gary is survived by his wife, Marlynn, two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris (Debbie) Beery of Arvada, Colo., and Kirk (Darcy) Beery of Parker, Colo.; a brother, Rodger (Marilyn) Beery of Loveland, Colo.; a sister, Leslie Ann Koester of Greeley, Colo., a sister-in-law Janice Schad of North Platte, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Gladys Beery, his in-laws, W.S. and Mary Phillips, brothers-in-law, Don Koester, Harold Phillips and Aaron Schad.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the St. Paul's Congregational Church, 1525 43rd Avenue in Greeley, Colo. Cremation and a family burial in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Greeley were chosen. Moser Funeral Home in Greeley, Colo., is in charge.
