Benjamin Franklin Beery
Benjamin Franklin Beery was born January 6, 1845 in the state of Indiana, and passed away at his home south of Farnam December 24, 1930 at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 18 days.
When but a boy he moved with his parents to Paige county, Iowa. On Jan 9, 1866 he was married to Catherine Hamm. To this union nine children were born, five of them surviving him. Three daughters, Mary Elizabeth, Sarah Lucinda and Fanny passed away in infancy, also another daughter, Mrs. Retta Pierson, who died April 4th, 1895.
Mr. Beery with his wife and family came to Nebraska in 1886 and located near Earl where they lived for eighteen years. Then for fourteen years they resided in Cambridge, when they moved to the old home south of Farnam, where they resided until the time of his death.
The deceased was a pioneer settler of this country and he and his family endured many of the hardships of those times.
He was a member of the Church of God, at Shambaugh, Iowa for forty years, and after moving to Nebraska, transferred his membership to the Methodist church at Cambridge, where he was a member until his death. Mr. Beery was a very zealous worker for the cause of the Lord, especially in the work of establishing Sunday Schools. He put forth great efforts to organize and maintain them. Many times having to walk long distances through the snow and storm to keep them going but was faithful to his Master's service. His love for Sunday schools could be seen by his attendance whenever he was able, and in the last hours of his life he called the Sunday school children to his bedside with his family and neighbors and like the patriarch, Jacob, blessed them as they sang, while a heavenly atmosphere settled over all.
The deceased was ill for about six weeks and through all his suffering was most patient. Though loving hands ministered to him and all that could be done was done, he quietly slipped out to his reward.
He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, five children, Mrs. Dolly Brown of Nampa, Idaho; Mrs. Clara Richards of New Sharon, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Huddle of Wapello, Iowa, Ed Beery of Farnam, Nebraska and Mrs. Blanch Pilcher of Nampa, Idaho, also two brothers, I. D. Berry of Shambaugh, Iowa and C. F. Beery of Denver, Colorado. One half brother, M. F. Beery of Lancaster, California, besides 30 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of relatives and friends.
Sleep on dear father, take thy rest.
Thy brow is worn by care.
Rest now upon thy Saviours' breast.
And we will meet thee there.
