Truman H. Barrett
Truman Barrett, 101, of Eustis, died March 12, 2009, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Long-Term Care.
He was born Oct. 14, 1907, at Orafino to Harley and Pearl (Bailey) Barrett. He attended Orafino High School.
Following his schooling, Truman worked on the family farm southwest of Eustis. On May 1, 1931, he married Ruth E. Heater at McCook. The couple made their home on the family farm, where they raised their children. In the mid 1940s Truman expanded into the Hereford cattle business.
Upon their retirement in 1977, Truman and Ruth moved to Eustis. Mrs. Barrett preceded him in death in 1999.
Truman was very active in local civic affairs. He served on various rural school boards, the Frontier County Historical Society, Farnam Nazarene Church Board, Frontier County Farm Bureau, Eustis Village Board, Stowe Cemetery Board and the 4-H Senior Partner's Program. He organized the Rolling Meadows 4-H Beef Club and was a lifetime member of the American Hereford Association. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church during his younger years and later became a member of the Farnam Nazarene Church. He joined the Gideon's International upon retirement and became active at the Eustis Senior Center.
Truman was an avid Scrabble player and NU Football fan. He loved studying the Bible and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is also preceded in death by a grandson, Kurt Miller; infant great granddaughter, Brittany Lee Burton; three sisters and one brother.
Survivors include his three daughters, Kathleen (Richard) Miller of Cambridge, Rosalie (Wayne) Joy of Kimball, Gwen (Loren) Carlisle of Colon, Mich.; son Bruce (Loretta) Barrett of Gothenburg; 11 grandchildren, Trisha (Bill) Moore of Cambridge, Coralyn (Bill) Burton of McCook, Michelle (Dudley) Scharff of Minden, Barbara (Rodney) Wolf of Ogallala, Bryan (Cassandra) Barrett of Dexter, Ore., Barry Barrett of Pensacola, Fla., Brent (Sharon) Joy of Clearwater, Fla., Yvette (Allen) Stanley of Aurora, Colo., Vanessa (Michael) West of Chicago, Ill., Vonda (Eric) Bryce of Grandville, Mich., Elizabeth Carlisle of Chicago, Ill.; 26 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.
A memorial has been established in his memory.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 16, at the United Methodist Church in Eustis with Pastors Art Phillips and Cliff Transmeier officiating. Burial will be in the Westview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Eustis.
Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
