Hazel H. (Cloyd) Bacon

Hazel Helen Bacon, 89, of Gothenburg died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg. Services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the First Baptist Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Bill Ivey officiating. Burial took place at the Cozad Cemetery. Bacon was born Nov. 12, 1919, to Monte and Otie Belle (Estes) Cloyd at Gothenburg. She graduated from Gothenburg High School.

On Aug. 4, 1940, she was united in marriage to Hubert Bacon at Elwood. To this union, four children were born. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 65 years, where she taught the Sunday school class for 4- and 5-year-olds. She also volunteered with Awanas and MOPS, and was a member of the Gardenairs.

Bacon was preceded in death by: her husband, Hubert Edward Bacon; her father, Monte Cloyd; her mother, Otie Belle Cloyd; a son, Eddie Lee Bacon, sisters–Eva Sabin and Mable Tunison; brother, Harry Cloyd.

Survivors include: her daughter, Linda (Mark) Prigge of Oakdale, MN; sons Jerry (Susan) Bacon of Gothenburg, and Richard (Pat) Bacon of Glenwood City, WI; grandchildren Tammi, Scott and Jonathan Prigge, Jason and Andrew Bacon, Camilla Canning and Amanda Shively; 10 great-grandchildren; niece, Joyce Sabin.
