Irvin Hess
Irvin Hess, 93, of Farnam, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at his home on August 31, 2025.
Irvin was born Feb. 26, 1932 to Earl and Katie (Hueftle) Hess, in rural Eustis, NE. In 1937, the family moved west of Farnam where he lived until 1957. He graduated from Farnam Public School in 1949. He married Ruth Ann Thompson on March 27, 1957, to this union three children were born: Scott, Nancy, and Carol. In 1957 Irvin and Ruth Ann moved to the farm south of Farnam where he lived until his passing.
Irvin was a lifelong member of the Farnam Methodist Church, where he was active from 1943 until his passing. He served faithfully in many roles over the years, including Sunday School teacher, church board member, and MYF sponsor. His dedication to faith and community was reflected in all areas of his life. Irvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed for two years at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and in Washington, D.C. As a dedicated member of his community, Irvin was involved in numerous local organizations, including the American Legion, Farnam Lions Club, Farnam Fire Department, Farnam Senior Board, and the Frontier County Farm Bureau Board.
He had a lifelong love of sports, both as an athlete and as a spectator.
Irvin is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann, children, Nancy (Roger) Berry, of Lincoln, NE; Carol Hess, of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren, Andrea (Trenton) Johns, Emily (Brandon) Park, Ryan (Amanda) Hess, Katie (Dustin) Bergeron, Jalen Hess, eight great-grandchildren, Kadynce Johns, Kolton Johns, Hadley Park, Hunter Park, Hunter Hess, Finley Hess, Noah Bergeron and Liam Bergeron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Katie Hess, his son, Scott Hess, brothers Gilbert and Clifford, sister Ruth Junker.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 10th St., Gothenburg, with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Farnam Methodist Church, 303 Caribou St., Farnam, NE, with Pastor Elmo Hermann officiating. Burial will follow in the Farnam Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Farnam Methodist Church, Farnam Fire Department or the Farnam Senior Center.
