Muriel Claire Kotschwar

Muriel Claire Kotschwar, 89, of Farnam, passed away on June 8, 2022, at the Elwood Care Center. She was born March 29, 1933, to Henry and Hester (Carman) Gewecke, northwest of Farnam.

She attended grades 1–3 at a rural school north of Ingham and grades 4–12 in Farnam, graduating from Farnam High School in 1950. She attended summer school at Kearney State College.

In August 1953, she married Leon Kotschwar. To this union, four children were born: Brent, Lana, Perry and Bryan.

Muriel taught at rural schools for six years. Her first teaching experience was at a school of 17 boys and one girl north of Gothenburg. She worked many years for area newspapers as a news correspondent and in the advertising field. She loved the interaction with people in different communities. She was a member of the Farnam United Methodist Church, serving on various church boards. She enjoyed being involved in many community organizations such as Economic Development, Founders Day, Welcome Wagon and various clubs. Muriel loved and cared about people of all ages and enjoyed visiting people in care facilities to help brighten their day. Muriel did not know a stranger!

Muriel is survived by her children, Brent (Peggy) Kotschwar of Omaha, Lana (Nick) Cate of Peachtree City, Georgia, Perry Kotschwar of Elwood and Bryan (Nancy) Kotschwar of Big Springs; eight grandchildren, Kurt (Angela) Kotschwar, Allison (Matt) Hilderbrand, Brennan, Bennett, Ryan Cate, Trenton (Jessica) Kotschwar, Lindsey (Marcus) Little and Grace Kotschwar; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Farnam United Methodist Church or to the family for later designation at 802 Smith Ave, Elwood, NE 68937. Online condolences may be shared at elwoodfuneralhome.com. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 13, at the Farnam United Methodist Church with Pastor Duncan Ibuuri officiating. Burial will follow at the Farnam Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at the Farnam United Methodist Church. Elwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
