Ruby Louise Oberg
Ruby Louise (Chesbrough) Oberg, 91, of Farnam, passed away on December 13, 2009 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg, NE.
She was born on August 8, 1918 to Ralph and Ethel (Adams) Chesbrough at Fitchburg, Massachusetts. She graduated from Fitchburg Massachusetts in 1936. On September 6, 1945 she married Clarence Oberg in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. To this union six children were born. Ruby and Clarence lived and farmed in Farnam, Nebraska.
Ruby was a homemaker. In her early years, she enjoyed being a Girl Scout. She was a member of the Farnam Nazarene Church and the Nazarene Women's Mission Society. Ruby worked in a paper factory and plastic factory, making buttons. She served as a Pianist for many years at the Nazarene Church. She was a Nursery/Pre-school Sunday school teacher. She had extreme culture shock, coming from Massachusetts, where they had electricity and running water, to Nebraska where she had neither. She enjoyed celebrating monthly family birthday dinners.
Ruby and Clarence received the Nazarene Distinguished Service Award and were an Honored Couple for the Founders Day parade.
Ruby's entire family was important to her. She made sure no one was left out and made their 'favorite dish' upon request.
Ruby is survived by her sister - Dorothy Bartlett of Strathroy, Ontario, Canada, sons - Edward (Laura) Oberg of Farnam, NE, Roger (Nancy) Oberg of Farnam, NE, Don (Barbara) Oberg of Kearney, NE, Richard (Karen) Oberg of Axtell, NE, Jeff (Dynette) Oberg of Arnold, NE; daughter - Louise (Dave) Jones of Colorado Springs, CO; grandsons - Jeffrey Oberg, Bradley Oberg, Kevin Oberg, Chester Oberg, Michael Oberg, Matthew Jones, Christopher Jones, Peter Jones, Timothy Jones; granddaughters - Sara Oberg, Kristin Oberg, Rebecca Rabel, Antonia Oberg; great-grandsons - Jackson Oberg, Harrison Oberg, Ethan Oberg, Kaleb Schuster; great-granddaughters - Grace Oberg, Skyler Oberg, Kiana Schuster, Ella Oberg, Breelle Rabel and sister-in-law - Lois Rice of Gothenburg, NE.
She was preceded in death by husband, Clarence John Oberg, grandson, Chad Oberg, granddaughter, Allison Oberg, brother-in-law, William Bartlett.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 1-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m., at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg.
Services will be on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Farnam Nazarene Church with Pastor Cliff Transmeier officiating.
Burial will take place in the Farnam Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Farnam Nazarene Church Memorial Fund, Farnam Rescue Unit or Farnam Senior Center. Online condolences can be given at blasestrauser.com. Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
