Washington Man Drowns In Mill Creek Monday
Leo N. Cross, 66-year-old retired druggist, drowned Monday evening when he lost his balance while crossing the dam in Washington’s city park and fell into Mill creek.
Mrs. Cross and friends of the couple were at the park, and some were fishing, when the elderly man started across the dam. He slipped on wet moss and scum which covered the concrete and fell some 10 to 15 feet into the creek. He reappeared twice on the surface.
Jack Nabors pulled the body from the creek, and artificial respiration was administered, followed by the pulmotot from the hospital, in a futile effort at reviving him.
Mr. and Mrs. Cross moved to Washington about a year ago after selling their drug store in Haddam. Funeral services were held a t 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ward Funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas F. Raleigh officiating. Burial followed in the Washington cemetery.
