Jess Edwin Zysset
GOTHENBURG - Jess Edwin Zysset, 89, of Gothenburg, died at Hilltop Estates Aug. 10, 2005.
He was born at Orafino, to Christian and Wilhelmina Pauline Laemle Zysset. At an early age, Jess helped his dad farm, raising horses.
Jess married Dorothy Meyer of Elwood in January 1938. She preceded him in death in March 1985. When World War II started, Jess tried to enlist, but was refused because of his handicap. Jess and Dorothy farmed in Missouri the first couple years of their marriage, returning to Nebraska in the early 1940s. Jess was a lifelong farmer, and also worked as a hired hand, plus many years at the hay mills in Gothenburg and Cozad. He also worked at the beet dump in Gothenburg. He helped his friends and neighbors with veterinary work and custom baling. He was an assistant leader for the Tri-County 4-H Club for more than 20 years.
On Nov. 16, 1991, Jess married Goldie Franzen, of Gothenburg. They made their home in Gothenburg for 13 years. They enjoyed going to dances together for many years. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie of Gothenburg; two sons, Eldon "Butch" (Irene) Zysset of Farnam and Dale Zysset of Eustis (and friend Carol Walther of Curtis); a daughter, Jan (Roger) Earhart of Eustis; six stepsons; a stepdaughter; 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Elsie Debban of Lexington.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; four brothers; and four sisters.
Memorials may be given to donor's choice.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Wendy Ruetten officiating. Burial is in the Farnam Cemetery.
Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg is in charge.
