Ruth M. (Hicks) Wintermute
Ruth M. Wintermute of Kearney, aunt of Arlene Unruh of Wallace, NE, died May 8, 2001 at St. John's Center, where she had been a resident since January 1999. She was 91.
She was born September 23, 1909 in Farnam to Arthur and Jennie (Fitch) Hicks. They moved to Kearney and she graduated from A.O. Thomas School and then attended Kearney State Teacher's College.
In 1937, she married Glen L. Wintermute in Farnam. They moved to Wyoming where they had a homestead. In 1942, they returned to the Farnam area. In 1978, they retired and moved to Kearney. She taught rural school in various communities before she was married and during the war years.
Mrs. Wintermute was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Open Circle, the Dawson County Extension Club and the Nebraska Cattleman's Association.
Survivors include a sister, Esther Boyd of Kearney, two nieces, Arlene Unruh of Wallace and Janice Peck of Fort Collins, CO., and three nephews, Don Whitacre of Kearney, Raymond Kjar of Costa Mesa, CA, and Dennis Kjar of Fort Collins, CO.
She was preceded in death by her husband on June 14, 1999 and a sister, Dorothy Kjar.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the American Parkinson's Disease Association.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Rev. Dr. Ron Roemmich officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Farnam Cemetery.
