Farnam Resident Dies at Age of 92

E. C. Williams passed away last Friday at the home of Bert and Ed Williams, south of Farnam. He lacked only one day of reaching the age of 92 years. He was a man with unusually good health. At the time of his last illness, it was the first he had ever been sick enough to need a doctor’s care, that he could recall. His family, neighbors and friends, enjoyed being with him and visiting with him to the end.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Rev. Fred H. Johnson, conducting the service. Burial was in the Farnam cemetery. The pall bearers were: Chas. Johnson, Roland Lehman, Winnie Workman, Grover Foote, Tommy Caster and Louis Klein, all neighbors of the Williams.

Eli Clark Williams was born near Uniontown, Pa., August 26, 1847, and departed this life, August 25, 1939 one day of reaching the age of 92.

When a small child he moved with his parents to Missouri, where he spent his boyhood, later moving to Kansas, where he grew to manhood, and was married to Eliza Ann Winters in 1874. To this union five children were born: Ella Hauser, Bert and Ed, all of Farnam; Mrs. W. A. White, Cozad and Ray, Colorado Springs.

In 1886 they moved to Dawson county and settled near Lexington. In 1916 they moved to Colorado where they lived until 1932, when they returned to Nebraska to make their home with their sons, Bert and Ed. Mrs. Williams preceeded [sic] him in death, March 25, 1938. Besides his immediate children he leaves 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren to mourn his passing.

He was born during the presidency of James K. Polk, while the war with Mexico was raging. He lived through the presidencies of Polk, Taylor, Fillmore, Pierce, Buchanan, Lincoln, Johnson, Grant, Hayes, Garfield, Arthur, Cleveland, Harrison, Cleveland, McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, Taft, Wilson, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover and Franklin Roosevelt. In fact much of the history of our country has been made during his lifetime. The population of the United States was about 23 million at the time of his birth.
