Obituary
Ruth Flagler was born at Pokeepsie [sic], N. Y., January 21, 1837, died at North Loup, Nebraska, December 29, 1917; age 80 years, 11 months and 8 days.
She was married to James R. Whitney, September 15, 1858. To this union were born, four boys and two girls; two having died in infancy.
She with her husband moved to Humboldt, Nebraska, soon after the Civil war, from there they moved to Farnam, Nebraska in 1889, where her husband died, June 19, 1901, and where she has resided until two years ago, when she went to live with her daughter at North Loup.
She had been gradually failing in health for the past few years, and on Christmas morning suffered a paralytic stroke, from which she gradually weakened until she passed away. Four children still survive her; John F. Whitney of Farnam; Mrs. Mary H. Taylor of Zion City, Illinois; Mrs. A. A. Babcock, of North Loup; and Vincent Whitney, of Farnam. All of whom were at her bedside, except Mrs. Taylor who had returned to her home a few days before she passed away. She is also survived by one sister, Miss Mary Flagler of Washington, D. C., twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, besides many friends to mourn her loss.
She united with the church in Humboldt, and in the year 1896 united with the Methodist church in Farnam, of which she was a member until her death.
Funeral services were held January 1st, from the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. T. E. Gillet, pastor. Interment in the Farnam cemetery.
