Obituary
Mary Ellen Lewis was born April 27, 1862, in Polk County, Iowa and died at her home near Eustis, Nebr., Sept. 9, 1920.
She was united in marriage to Chas. Uhlig Sept. 1, 1879, at Guthrie Center, Iowa, where they lived for six years, moving from there to Frontier County, Nebr. Settling on a homestead south of Eustis in 1886, where they made their home in the same neighborhood until death claimed her, the husband having preceded her five years.
To this union were born ten children, six sons and four daughters. Her sickness which extended over a period of months was borne with such patience and fortitude that those who were with her could hardly realize that she was going to be called away so soon. She met everyone with a smile and a cheery word up to the day of her death.
She leaves to mourn her loss, five sons, Ernest, Charles, Paul, Guy and Harmon and three daughters, Mrs. Harry Stewart, Mrs. Wm. Schultz and Edna; fourteen grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
All of the children were with her during her sickness and death, excepting Chas. who was unable to come but arrived in time for the funeral.
Funeral services were held at the house, Sunday afternoon, Sept. 12, 1920. Rev. J. Walter Field of Farnam officiating. Interment in the Farnam cemetery.
