Charles Uhlig
Chas. Uhlig was born at Liepsieg, Germany, June 1, 1842 and death resulted from a stroke of paralysis at Eustis, Nebraska, April 23, 1915, aged 72 years 10 months and 23 days. He was the oldest of six children. Having finished the city schools at the age of fourteen, he began working in a printing office and continued at this work for four years, and then with his parents immigrated to the United States. They settled in the state of Illinois and after making that their home for two years the family moved to Guthrie County Iowa.
September 1, 1879 he was united in marriage with Mary Ellen Lewis. To this union was born ten children, four daughters and six sons. One son and one daughter have preceded him to the land of spirits, and he leaves to mourn his departure a wife and eight children, all of which were present at the time of his death. In the year 1885 he located on his late home in Frontier County, Nebraska, near Eustis. In the death of Mr. Uhlig the community loses one of its pioneers in the progress and development the country, as he cheerfully endured the hardships of the earlier days when the country was new, and he always took an active part in the things that made for the betterment of the community in which he lived. He was a kind husband, a devoted father, considerate in his feelings for others, and will be greatly missed by all those who were associated with him.
The funeral services were held from his home last Monday at noon, with Rev. B. A. Shiverly of Callaway officiating. Interment was made in the Farnam Cemetery.
