Obituary
Martin Titchen, son of Martin and Katherina Titchen, was born near Bremen, Germany, July 24, 1870, and passed away at a Hastings hospital Saturday morning January 8th, 1949. He had been a patient there the past eight months. A week before his death he had a stroke caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. He was at time of death 78 years, 5 months and 15 days of age.
In infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran church and at the age of fourteen years he made his confirmation vows. When he was nineteen years old he immigrated to America and to Pennsylvania, there he worked as a farm hand, later moving to Nebraska and located near Lexington. In 1905 he moved near Farnam.
In 1912 he was united in marriage to Miss Annie Folkers of Gothenburg. To this union two children was born, a daughter, Margrete and son Martin who died in infancy. He is survived by Mrs. Titchen and daughter, now Mrs. Edward Power of North Platte, six grandchildren and one nephew, John Titchen of Farnam. After marriage they moved to another farm and lived there until his health began to fail and [they] moved to Gothenburg.
Funeral services were held from Olesen Funeral home in Gothenburg to the Methodist church in Farnam Wednesday afternoon, January 12th. Rev. Gray and Rev. Fern McCaig officiated at the services in Farnam. Burial was in the Farnam Cemetery. The singers were Chas. Pollard, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hess and Miss Emily Foote, Mrs. Raymond Smith accompanied them at the piano. Art Heumphreus, George Brinkhouse, Clifford Reynolds, A. B. Strickland, Al Labounty and Grover Widick served as pallbearers.
