Gerald W. Thompson, 81 of Farnam, Nebraska died October 31, 2008 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Long-term Care facility in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Gerald Wesley Thompson was born on November 17, 1926 to Owen and Lena Floy (Caley) Thompson at Farnam. He graduated from Farnam High School on May 25, 1944. The following day he went to work at the Farnam Bank where he continued to work as a cashier until retiring on December 31, 1991. On January 11, 1974 Gerald married Alma Louise (Williams) McNickle at Farnam.

Gerald enjoyed trapshooting, electronics and computers. He also had a special love for his dog Bruits.

Gerald is the last male Thompson in the lineage of Thomas Thompson who immigrated to America in 1860 from England.

Gerald is survived by a step-son: Bruce McNickle and his wife Ann; two step-daughters: Edythe McNickle and Linda McNickle; Five step-grandchildren; cousins Ruth Ann (Irvin) Hess of Farnam; Betty (Ken) Hoppe-Stevens of Farnam; and host of other family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alma and his parents Owen and Floy.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 5 from 9:00-8:00 pm at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 6 at Farnam United Methodist Church with Pastor Tess Hufford Officiating.

Burial will be in the Farnam Cemetery.
