Henry A. Sturgeon
Henry A. Sturgeon, 73, died Saturday, July 9, 1994 at his home north of Farnam.
The funeral will be Wednesday (today) at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Farnam, with Rev. Mark Schutt officiating. Music will be furnished by Tom Oberg and Donna Hazen.
Interment will be in the Farnam Cemetery with military rites at grave side conducted by the Farnam American Legion Post #288.
Casket bearers will be Larry Hermsmeyer, Roger Oberg, Dan Kotschwar, Dale Oberg, Leland Messersmith and Calvin Krepcik. Honorary bearers will be Clayton Heath, Clyde Kotschwar, Lloyd Hopkins, Gene Messersmith, Anton Kotschwar, Eugene Peterson and Harold Griffith.
Henry Amos, son of Henry and Nora (Presler) Sturgeon, was born April 2, 1921 at Orafino. He grew up there and graduated from Orafino High School in 1939. He married Ruth Irene Gaibler at Minden on Oct. 18, 1955. He was a farmer/rancher.
Sturgeon was a member of the Farnam American Legion Post #288 and the Gothenburg VFW Post #5132. He served as a member of the Farnam Board of Education for 28 years, many years as the treasurer.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Farnam; one son, Douglas and his wife, Tami of Cozad; two sisters, Mary (Vernon) Nissen of Grand Island and Helen (Gene) Andrews of Garden City, KS; two brothers, Howard (Orvene) of Denver, CO; and Delmar (Vi) of Escondido, CA; three grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, George, John, and Melvin; and one sister, Edna Byrum. A memorial has been established.
