Obituary Collection
Henry Amos Sturgeon

Henry Amos Sturgeon, son of John L. and Maggie Sturgeon, was born at Rising City, Nebraska on August 7th, 1876, and departed this life in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Nessen, at Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on July 20th, 1951, having reached the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 13 days.

Mr. Sturgeon grew to manhood at Columbus, Nebraska and came to Orafino, Frontier county, to make his home on a farm, where he resided until his death.

On February 5th, 1913 he was united in marriage with Nora L. Presler at Genoa, Colorado. This union was blessed with nine children, six sons, and three daughters, all of whom survive. Mrs. Sturgeon predeceased her husband in 1934.

Mr. Sturgeon leaves to mourn his demise, his nine children, John of Orafino; Mrs. Edna Byrum of Roy Utah; Mrs. Mary Nissen of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Howard of North Platte, Nebraska; Delmar of Maywood, California; Henry Jr. of Orafino; George of Farnam, Nebraska; Melvin, now with the Armed Forces in Europe and Mrs. Helen Andrews of Morrill, Nebraska. Ten grandchildren; two sisters, Lydia Sturgeon of Sacramento, California and Mrs. William Kaufmann of Dutch Flat, California and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Orafino Evangelical United Brethren Church on Monday, July 23rd at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. F.C. Ebinger officiating. A quartet consisting of Donald Miller, Mrs. Ethridge Price, Mr. and Chester Hansen and Mrs. Chester Hansen sang “Does Jesus Care”, “No Night There”, and “Face to Face”.

The following served as pall bearers: R.B. Hayes, Frank Banzhaf, Clifford McMichael, Lloyd Hopkins, Clifford Hopkins, and Delby Morton.

The body was tenderly laid to rest in the Farnam cemetery, Farnam, Nebraska.
