Orvil Richard Stebbins
People of Farnam and community were greatly shocked and grieved to learn of the sudden death of O. R. Stebbins, which occurred about midnight Sunday. Mr. Stebbins was apparently in good health when he retired Sunday night. Mrs. Stebbins was awakened by an unusual sound he made shortly before midnight and immediately called Dr. Reeves, but he had passed away before the doctor reached him.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist church. Rev. C. R. Tanner officiated and Rev. J. E. Craig, of Taylor, Nebr., an old friend of Mr. Stebbins, assisted.
Orvil Richard Stebbins, youngest son of William and Sarah Stebbins, was born at Sherman, Chautauqua County, New York, Dec. 15, 1868. Passed away about midnight, April 9, 1933. Age 64 years, 3 months and 25 days.
He spent his early manhood in Sherman, New York, and came with his parents to Nebraska in December, 1886, settling on a farm west of Farnam, which is now the Owen place.
He was united in marriage to Julia Moore, in 1892, and to this union two sons were born: William LeRoy, who gave his life in service of his country in 1918, and Orrie Richard, who resides in Lancaster, California.
The mother passed away, February 9, 1926.
The family moved from the farm to the Commercial hotel in 1901. Mr. Stebbins lived almost continually in the vicinity of Farnam, coming from the state of New York, and was one of the early settlers in this community.
On August 25, 1932 he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Schulligan.
Mr. Stebbins was a much respected citizen of the community. He was a loving husband and father, a good neighbor and friend and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife; one son, Orrie, and his wife, Lila; one granddaughter, Lavon and two grandsons, Dean and Darrell; also two brothers, Levi of Farnam, and Jay of Mishawaka, Ind.; four nieces and seven nephews, and a host of friends.
His father and mother, one brother, Milton and a sister, Ada, preceded him in death.
His sudden death came as a great shock to the family and to the community.
