Ada M. Speck
Ada Margaret Speck, 87, former North Platte resident died March 15, 2003, at Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial.
She was born Nov. 23, 1915, to John B. and Mary A. Courtwright Speck at Lexington. When she was 2 years old, the family moved to a farm 9 miles north of Moorefield. She lived there with her parents and her brother’s family until her parents and her brother died. She continued living with her sister-in-law, Alberta Speck and her nephew, John Speck’s family until 1977. She moved to North Platte in 1978 to live with her sister, Mae Nelsen. They moved to the Pawnee Retirement Hotel. After Mae died, she moved to the North Platte Care Center. In 1997, Sharlene Speck Briggs, her niece, became her guardian and she moved to Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial to be nearer to Sharlene and her nephew John Speck. She later moved to Parkview Assisted Living in Imperial.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Alberta Wilhelmson of North Platte, and many nieces and nephews including, Sharlene (Dan) Briggs of Imperial, Coleen (Vernon) Reutzel of Maxwell, Eva Reutzel of North Platte, Lois (Bob) Waits of Colorado, Loretta Ogier of Bassett, Genanive (Edwin) Hansen of North Platte, Keta (Bill) Carlsen of Kearney, Caroline Waller of Sioux Falls, S.D., Robert (Millie) Speck of Millard, John Speck of Imperial, Richard (Shirley) Speck of Farnam, Kendall (Pat) Speck of Jacksonville, Fla., Rodney (Marsha) Speck of Gothenburg; and numerous great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mae Nelsen and Mary Thomsen; two brothers, Jim and Eugene “Ben” Speck; a sister-in-law, Lucille Speck; two brothers-in-law, Henry Thomsen and Anton Nelsen; a niece, Eunice Speck; and two great nephews, Rick and Chad Speck.
A memorial has been established.
Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Farnam Cemetery with the Rev. Nathan Wadewitz officiating.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.
