Another Early Resident Called
Jesse Edmund Smith was born Oct. 25, 1863 at Wright, Hillsdale county, Mich., and departed from earthly life July 15, 1924 at his home at Ingham, Nebr. Age 60 years, 8 months and 20 days.
He was the only son in a family of four children. Two sisters survive him, one having gone to that shore beyond.
He was married to Maude Teel Dec. 24, 1907. To this union eight children were born, all of whom are living to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father.
Mr. Smith died early Tuesday evening. The exact cause of his death is unknown, but it was thought to be heart failure. He had not been feeling well since early spring, but was not ill enough to be in bed. He had eaten a hearty supper and then went out and helped his wife work in the garden. His work caused a feeling of fatigue to creep over him so he went to the house and to bed. As Mrs. Smith was putting the children to bed she laid the baby down beside him, he turned over, patted it a couple of times on the back, and breathed his last.
Mr. Smith has lived in this vicinity for about 30 years and his many friends regret that he was so suddenly called to his future home.
Funeral services were held at the Ingham school house Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. Craig pastor of the Congregational church had charge of this service. The remains were laid to rest in the Farnam cemetery.
The Echo joins their many friends in extending to the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy.
