Although he had been confined to his bed for several weeks, the death yesterday afternoon at 2:45 o'clock of David H. Smith, came as a shock to the community.
Preparations were being made at the time for removal into town to the Brawley Community Hospital, in order that he might be made more comfortable.
The attending physician, Dr. George Holbran, was on his way to the ranch, and the wife and Mrs. R. E. Gonder were with the patient.

William Malan, pastor of El Centro M.E. church officiating in teh absence of both the Magnolia and the Brawley pastors. Miss Helen Lowder and the Magnolia Union school has charge of the music. Immediately after the services, Mrs. Smith will leave on the 9:55 train, accompanying the body to the old home at Farnam, Nebraska, for burial.

Four years ago (this coming February 7) the Smiths came out here on a visit to the Gonders for the benefit of Mr. Smith's health.
The climate was so beneficial that they were making this their home and just recently had moved to the Jamison-Elmore ranch on Orita Canal.
Mr. Smith was born May 24, 1877 in Zanesville, Ohio. He was married to Miss Helen Mock in 1900, and in 1909 they made their home in Farnam, Nebraska, until coming to the valley.
He is survived by his widow, a married son in Farnam, Raymond Smith, a married daughter in Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Lena Shrepel, and a granddaughter, Ardyce Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith were both members of the Baptist church, but had identified themselves with the Community Church here, in which, as in all community affairs, they were very active, Mrs. Smith especially.
Two years ago they made a motor trip to Ohio and Nebraska, visiting relatives and friends.
