Obituary Collection
Jacob B. Rice

Jacob B. Rice, eldest son of Henry and Elizabeth Rice, was born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, Febr. 18, 1851 and passed away at his home in Wichita, Kansas, Sept. 12, 1934. Aged 83 years, 6 months and 24 days.

In the fall of 1859 he came with his parents to Hancock County, Illinois, where he grew to manhood.

He came to Frontier County, Nebraska in October, 1882 and resided on the farm south of Farnam, until October 1933, when he moved to Wichita, Kansas.

He was united in marriage to Mary Luella Lydic, June 6, 1889. She preceded him in death, Jan 22, 1932. To this union were born six children, one dying in infancy.

He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Mary Babcock, of Dallas City, Illinois; Mrs. Belle Smith of Diagonal, Iowa; Miss Laura and Miss Etta Rice of Burlington, Iowa; two sons, Jay L. and Dean Rice of Farnam; three daughters; Mrs. Harvey Klooz, of Farnam, Mrs. W. F. Day of Orafino and Miss Nellie Rice of Wichita, Kansas; eleven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was a charter member of the Lone Star Church of the Nazarene later transferring his membership to the West Side Church of the Nazarene in Wichita, Kansas.

He was a faithful husband, a devoted father, and obliging neighbor. He took pleasure in providing for his family. The death of his wife was a more serious blow to him than many people realized but he never complained, and during his sickness was always patient and appreciative of what was done for him.

He was always interested in anything that was for the betterment of the community and especially the church which he attended faithfully and supported liberally.

Those who loved him best were the ones who knew him longest and the most intimately. His passing leaves a vacancy that will not be filled but his influence will be felt for many years.

Funeral services were held last Friday at the Lone Star Church of the Nazarene by Pastor L. M. Rambo. Internment was in the Farnam Cemetery.
