John Pollard Dies After Short Illness
This community was saddened when it became known Monday evening that John Pollard had passed away following an illness of only ten days. Although his suffering was very intense, he bore his illness with admirable courage. He was one of whom it might truly be said that his friends were numbered by his acquaintances. Of an exceeding cheerful and sunny disposition and generous nature he made friends easily and these friends are among the great number who mourn his passing and sympathize with the bereaved members of the family.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 in the Baptist church. Rev. E. C. Barton of Grand Island officiated and was assisted by Rev. S. McKeown. Interment was made in the Farnam cemetery.
The music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Dan McNickle and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Stinnette. The pall bearers were Floyd Gardner of Eustis, Ray Harper, Willis Whitney, Albert Oman, L. E. Spencer and J. O. Martin
John W. Pollard, born at Watertown, New York on July 19, 1856, departed this life at Farnam, Nebraska on February 10, 1936, aged 79 years, 6 months and 21 days. His mother departed this life 73 years ago when he was 7 years old. They then moved to Decatur, Michigan where they made their home for many years. His father passed away about 40 years ago.
He later moved to eastern Nebraska where he was united in marriage to Emma C. Kitchen. They moved to Farnam in the fall of 1889, where he has lived until now.
To this union there were born twelve children: Charles, Walter, Elva Maurer and Helen Pollard of Farnam, Minnie Sensel of Culbertson, Eugene of Enid, Oklahoma, Robert of Boulder, Colo., Esther Robertson of Aurora, Nebr., and Mable Chinn of Orin, Wyoming. He united with the Farnam Baptist church on September 25, 1890. He has been church treasurer, Sunday school superintendent and deacon. He was a faithful member through all the years; his interest was for his church; he was faithful in attendance. He has made great sacrifices in order that the family might have an education. He was a true and faithful, self-sacrificing father. His last thought was for the welfare of others. His presence and inspiration will be greatly missed. His rest is well earned.
