Obituary
The community of Farnam and particularly the Baptist church of Farnam suffered a great loss in the death of Mrs. John W. Pollard on June 14, 1921. Her life and work in the community and her devotion to the cause of Christ in the church as well as her devotion to her family will never be forgotten.
Emma C. Kitchen was born March 21, 1869 in Tippicanoe, Indiana. Her parents, both of whom are still living here in Farnam, were among the early pioneers to Nebraska. In February of 1888 she was married to John W. Pollard. To this union were born twelve children, three of whom died some years ago. They have lived in this community, north of town, practically all of their married life and everyone knew Mrs. Pollard for her tender sympathy and kindly helpfulness, in which her relation to the church came over foremost in her affections, her home and children lovingly absorbing her time and attention. She has been church clerk for several years past.
The last few years of Mrs. Pollard’s life have been years of decreasing strength and vitality. At the time she died she was at the home of her son, Walter, here in town, from which place the funeral was held on Friday, June 17, 1921. Services were in charge of Rev. J. W. Field, pastor of the Farnam Baptist church, assisted by Rev. Gillet of the Methodist church of Farnam, and Rev. Stinnette of Moorefield, an old–time friend of the family and well known to Farnam folk. Interment in the family lot in Farnam cemetery.
