Obituary Collection
Charles E. Pollard

The Farnam community mourned the loss of its oldest business man, Charles E. Pollard, who passed away on Sept. 12, 1978. He had opened an insurance and real estate office in Farnam in 1912 and was active in the business until his death.

Charles was born in Fleming, Colorado on November 30, 1888 to Emma and John Pollard. When he was six months old, they moved to Farnam by covered wagon, where his eleven brothers and sisters were born. He graduated from Farnam High School.

On January 1, 1913 he was married to Glennie Jones in Blairstown, Missouri. They had a daughter, Marjorie, (Mrs. Edwin Axtel) who lives in Denver, Colorado. Their son, Marvin, is a practicing physician and lives in Pasadena, California.

Charles served as a crop reporter for the U. S. Department of Agriculture for over sixty years. He was an active member of the local Lions Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge at Gothenburg. He was a long time member of the Baptist Church which he served faithfully for many years as a Sunday school teacher and in other capacities.

After the closing of the local church he enjoyed the fellowship and services of the Church of the Nazarene.

Charles was an active, concerned member of the community who cared enough to serve many years on the school and town boards.

Farnam residents shall miss seeing Charlie downtown each day. They shall miss his ready wit and concern for others. He left them all with many fond memories to treasure.

Charles is survived by his wife, Glennie, his daughter, Marjorie, his son, Marvin, two sisters, Esther (Mrs. Elwood Robertson) of Yuciapa, California, and Helen (Mrs. George Tillotson) of Boulder, Colorado, one brother, Robert of Boulder, Colorado and a host of friends.
