W. E. Patterson
Worn E. Patterson, a resident of Gothenburg for 43 years, was born in Savannah, Mo., on the 20th day of January, 1880. He was the son of Wm. and Ella Patterson. When he was four years of age he came with his parents to Nebraska, where they established their home south of Farnam. He grew to manhood in the Farnam community. From 1903 to 1911 he was in business in Farnam. While living in the Farnam community, he was baptized in the First Baptist church of Farnam.
In the year 1911 he came to Gothenburg, where he lived to the time of his death. During the years that he lived in Gothenburg, he was engaged in the business of blacksmithing.
He was united in marriage to Miss Stella Jackson on August 17, 1910. This marriage was blessed with two sons and four daughters, all of whom are still among the living.
Mr. Patterson has been in ill health for a number of years, but was still able to be up and around and to spend his time in the Patterson place of business. He became seriously ill last Sunday evening at about 10:30 and passed away shortly thereafter, at about 11:15 p.m.
He attained the age of 74 years, 2 months and 15 days. He is survived by his wife, Stella Patterson of Gothenburg; his two sons, Albert and Delevon Patterson of Gothenburg; his four daughters, Gladys Damme of Sioux City, Iowa, Mary Ella McCormick, Kirkwood, Mo., Hazelle LaFortune of San Lorenzo, Calif., and DeLorice Fisher of Rochester, Minnesota. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Pinkney Carter of Auburn, Neb., and Mrs. Pearl Clabaugh of San Gabriel, Calif.; also by two brothers, James Patterson of Yakima, Wash., and Roy Patterson of Chino, Calif.; also by 13 grandchildren. Three brothers, George, Lester and Omer, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the McVay Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, April 7, at two p.m., Rev. R. Beckman, pastor of the American Lutheran church officiating. Robert M. Williams sang the Lord’s Prayer, 23rd Psalm, accompanied by John W. Greene, Jr. Pallbearers were Rich Janssen, Al Mannon, W. E. Swanson, George Mann, Clarence McNeal and Emil Friesenborg. Final resting place was in Farnam cemetery.
