Sudden Death

Mrs. Emma L. Palmer, wife of W. H. Palmer, passed away Tuesday evening about 7 p.m. Her sudden death was caused by a heart attack of which she had suffered twice previously within the past three years.

The Palmers had just returned from a trip to California and Arizona just before 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, and her health and spirits seemed at ease. She had celebrated her 68th birthday while on their trip. Mrs. Palmer’s attending physician from Curtis was called.

Mr. and Mrs. Palmer moved into Farnam three years ago after farming in Frontier county for many years. Mrs. Palmer was born in Frontier county and spent her entire life in this community. She leaves to mourn her husband, W. H. (Bill) and son Wayne and family of Washington, D.C. and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this printing, tentative plans are for Friday afternoon in the Methodist church at Farnam. Wetzel Funeral Home of Curtis is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Emma L. Palmer

Emma L. Griffis, daughter of Augustus and Amy Griffis, was born on March 20, 1891, on a farm five miles south of Farnam, and passed away at her home in Farnam, March 31, 1959; at the age of 68 years, and 1 day [11 days]. She had just returned with her husband with her husband from a trip to California, and within two hours after arriving home, she passed away as the result of a heart attack.

She was united in marriage to William H. Palmer, April 6, 1910 at Stockville, Nebraska, by Judge Pyle. To this union was born two children, a daughter, Evelyn, passed away in infancy, and a son, Wayne Palmer, now living in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Palmer lived her life in the Farnam community. Up until the time of her marriage she lived with her parents in Farnam. For thirty-nine years she lived with her husband on a farm ten miles southwest of Farnam. Since 1955 she has lived in Farnam, Nebraska.

She grew up with a Congrational Church background, and was a member of the Baptist church, Farnam, Nebraska. For the past several years she was an attendant at the Methodist church. She was a member of the Guild, and also of the American Legion Auxilliary.

She is survived by her husband, William H. Palmer, Farnam, and one son, Wayne Palmer of Washington, D.C., one sister, Mrs. Alice Palmer of Ogallala, Nebraska, two grandchildren, Joan and Martin Palmer, both of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Griffis, one sister, Mrs. Celia Stauffer, one half-sister, Mrs. Lufkin, and one brother, James Griffis.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, Farnam, Nebraska, Friday, April 3, 1959 at 2:00 P.M. Rev. B. H. Hart officiated. Interment in the Farnam Cemetery.

The singers were Dale Montgomery, Mrs. Pansy Piersol, Mrs. Mildred Edson, and Arvid Banks. Mrs. Doris Smith was the pianist.

Pallbearers were: Burr Parker, Russell Wilcox, Elgie Thompson, Lee Hudson, Arthur Bick and Maurice Widick.
