Alice M. Palmer
Alice M. Palmer, a 46-year resident of Ogallala, the last eight years having been spent at the Indian Hills Manor Rest Home, died at the Ogallala Hospital on Aug. 29 after a brief illness.
Alice was born to Augustus and Amy Griffis in Farnam, Nebr., on July 15, 1895. In December 1912 she married Raleigh M. Palmer at Stockville, Nebr. The couple went to their wedding in style; Raleigh hired one of the very few automobiles in the county to chauffeur them from Farnam to Stockville and back.
The couple spent most of the next 15 years on a farm in Frontier county. In 1927 they quit the farm and went to Tulsa, Okla., where Raleigh worked at the plastering trade and Alice became a beautician. In fact, she wound up buying and operating the beauty school for a year or so. In 1929 they came to Ogallala where Alice ran her own beauty shop during most of the 1930’s.
Alice was preceded in death by her brother and all three sisters as well as by her husband. She is survived by only a nephew, Wayne Palmer of Silver Spring, Maryland.
