Nellie R. Oman
Nellie R. Oman, longtime resident of the south side in Gothenburg, passed away Thursday night, Aug. 30, 1973, at the home of her daughter in Kearney, where she had made her home the past three years. Born Feb. 14, 1890, in Humboldt, Nebr., she was 83.
When Nellie Rebecca Clement, daughter of William and Sarah Clement, was five years old, the family moved by covered wagon to Farnam, where she grew up.
On April 5, 1911, she was united in marriage to Oscar C. Oman and to the union three children were born: Clarence, Kenneth and Jean. They farmed in the Farnam and Gothenburg communities until 1947 when Nellie’s health failed. At this time they moved to Glendale, Ariz., where they lived until Oscar passed away in 1964. She moved back to Gothenburg for six years and then to Kearny where she made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Russell Johnson.
She was a member of the Antelope Center Baptist Church for many years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gothenburg at the time of her death. She loved life and people and enjoyed all her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nellie will be remembered by her friendliness and cheerfulness through her many years of pain and suffering. She enjoyed life to the fullest.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth Oman of Gothenburg; one daughter, Jean, Mrs. Russell Johnson of Kearney; two brothers: Charles Clement and Claude Clement, both of Farnam; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday afternoon at the McVay Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg, conducted by Rev. Russell Baustian, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Bernard Ristine was the solist, and Mrs. Clifford Geiken the organist. Pallbearers were Spencerr Decker, Sr., Ivan Wiggins, Walter Hecox, Russell Wilcox, Bruce Findlay and Clyde Wareham. Interment was in the Farnam Cemetery, Farnam, Nebr.
