Death of
Cliff Nickerson

Cliff Nickerson, who has been in poor health and under the doctor’s care a large part of the time since the close of the first World War, died just before noon Sunday, July 6th, at the local hospital, where he was taken nearly a week previous for treatment.

Clifford Nickerson was born on August 20, 1896, nine miles east of Stockville, Nebraska. He was the son of the late James H. Nickerson, who died in 1901.

He was married to Miss Elma Rosenfelt of Farnam, at Lexington September 12, 1925. Three children were born to this marriage: Clifford Charles, Barbara Ruth and Madeline Carol.

Surviving him are his wife and three children, his mother, Mrs. Marion Messersmith, and three brothers: Milo of Orafino, Neb., Fred of Northville, Michigan, and Henry of Gothenburg, One brother, Howard was killed in action during the first World War in 1918, and one sister, Lola Josephine [Ommert], died in 1932.

Clifford was an enlisted man in the first World war, being inducted into the army at Farnam June 26, 1917, serving in Company C, 128th Infantry. When the war ended he remained with the Army of Occupation in Germany.

The deceased has been well and favorably known in this town and community; was a good husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services, under auspices of the American Legion, were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. S. Mitchell officiating. A quartet composed of Dan and Harve McNickle, David Banks and Forreest Saum, with Mrs. Mitchell at the piano, furnished the music. [Pallbearers were “soldier buddies” of the deceased man: James Clark, Ned (Hap) Ward and Bernard Norsworthy, Gothenburg; John Rowland, Ray Blackwood and Owen Thompson of Farnam.]

Interment, with Jansen-Hugo in charge, was in the Farnam cemetery.
