Arthur S. McNickle
Arthur Staffford McNickle, well known and highly esteemed pioneer of this community, passed away at his home in Farnam, Wednesday, August 13, 1924 at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 1 day.
Mr. McNickle was born in Howard township, Cass County, Michigan, Sept. 12, 1850 where he lived until he became a young man. In 1874, he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah A. Rhodes and in March 1879, with his wife and little daughter, they moved to Grafton, Nebr. where they lived until they came to Farnam in 1892. Mr. McNickle resided on a farm near Farnam until about eight years ago when he and his good wife moved to town where they have since made their home.
Mr. McNickle has been in poor health for several months but his condition was not thought to be serious until a few weeks ago. He had a number of spells with his heart and he has been gradually growing weaker until the end came last Wednesday evening. He was a good neighbor, a kind and loving husband and father and was highly respected by all who knew him.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, four sons: Dan, Harry and Harve of Farnam and John of Cozad, twenty four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Their only daughter, Grace Ruth, preceeded him to the great beyond twenty-two years ago.
Funeral services were held at the home last Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Craig, pastor of the Congregational church. Internment was made in the Farnam cemetery.
The Echo joins their many friends in extending sympathy to the sorrowing family in their bereavement.
