James C. McDermott was born in Roscommon County, Ireland May 3rd, 1840 and departed this life June 21, 1921, at Long Beach, California. Age 81 years, 1 month and 18 days. He came to the United States and landed in N.Y. in March 1868 and in the early 70th [sic] he moved to Winfield, Iowa where he was married to Miss Lucretia Irelan Jan. 6, 1881. They moved to Frontier County, in the year of 1890 where they made their home until they moved to Farnam, Nebr. in the year of 1900 at which they lived until Aug. 24th, 1920 when they moved to Long Beach, California where he lived at time of death. He united with the Methodist church of Farnam in 1896 and was a member of the Methodist church of Long Beach, California at the time of death. He was well known to the people of Farnam and the many friends mourn his departure.

The remains were brought to Farnam, Nebr. and funeral services were held in the Methodist church June 30, 1921. Enternment [sic] in the Farnam Cemetery.
