Obituary Collection
John T. Martin

The many friends of John T. Martin were grieved to hear last Thursday evening of his death at his home south of Farnam.

Mr. Martin, who was a resident of Frontier county for almost forty years, was highly respected by his neighbors and friends, and they will feel a distinct loss in his passing.

John Thomas Martin was born on June 24, 1867 in Moultrie county Illinois and departed this life on April 24, 1930 at his home south of Farnam, Nebraska.

Mr. Martin had not been well since the time of the flew [sic] epidemic several years ago and about five years ago it was found that he was suffering from sugar diabetes, when about three weeks ago he contracted small pox which weakened his system and his strength was not great enough to recover.

He was the oldest son of Miles F. and Rhoda A. Martin with whom he moved to Nebraska in the spring of 1872; settling in Fillmore county where they lived until 1892 when they moved to Frontier county and on to the farm south of Farnam.

John was a graduate of the Shickley high school and a student at Fairfield college. He taught school for many years, holding a life certificate from the State.

He gave his life to Christ soon after coming to Frontier county and remained a follower of Christ until his death. At the time of his death he was a member of the Church of Christ at McCook, Nebraska.

He had long been an Odd Fellow and believed in the principles of Odd Fellowship.

He was united in marriage to Mary Carmichael in 1901, and to this union came three children to brighten the home. The oldest being Mrs. Edith Beery of Curtis and Miles Franklin and John Jr. who are still at home.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn, one grandson, Warren Beery; three sisters, Mrs. Nora Westrope of Bolley, Oklahama; Mrs. Martha Trindel of Glens Ferry, Idaho and Mrs. Etta Uhlig of Sutherland, Nebraska and one brother, James O. of Farnam, Nebraska and a host of nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Farnam cemetery Sunday, conducted by Rev. Frank Shea, pastor of the Lone Star church of south of Farnam. Burial was made in the Farnam cemetery.

The Farnam Echo, 1 May 1930.
