Bernard 'Bernie' Lindvall Jr.

Bernard "Bernie" Lindvall Jr., 84, died Jan. 28, 2000, at his home in Gothenburg.

He was born June 24, 1915, at Lincoln to Bernard A. and Louise D. Wehrs Lindvall. The family resided in Holdrege at the time of his birth but moved to his childhood home west of Farnam in his early years. He attended school at Ingham and later received his bachelor's degree in science from Kearney State College. He was an elementary school teacher, administrator and a friend to young people. He was a great believer in education and had a natural gift for giving his students the ability and desire to learn.

On June 8, 1941, he married H. Elaine McNickle and they had four sons. He also had a farm and cattle operation. He was active in the boys' 4-H activities. His wife preceded him in death April 22, 1969. On June 23, 1972, he married Gail McFarland Norsworthy. They spent many happy years together while he continued to teach and raise cattle. His second wife preceded him in death Jan. 29, 1995.

Mr. Lindvall taught at various schools including Farnam, Eustis, Beaver Valley (Danbury), Maywood and 81R northeast of Gothenburg. He loved to socialize and there were very few who met him that remained strangers by the end of the night. He was a member of Farnam United Methodist Church. Survivors include four sons, Jerry of Omaha, Ron (Minnie Ann) of Edgar, Keith (Lila) of Kearney and Robert "George" (Mary) of Curtis; two stepchildren and their families including, Mary Ann (Jack) Ostergard of Gothenburg; seven grandchildren; families of his wives; nieces and nephews; and best companion, Roy Bartlett of Gothenburg.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lucile; and a brother, Wehrs.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Farnam with Dr. William Deahl officiating. Burial will be in the Farnam Cemetery.
