ELSIE — Eugene F. Johnson, 78, a long-time resident of rural Elsie, died Monday afternoon at a Grant hospital.

He was born May 22, 1911, in Phelps County, near Bertrand to Emil and Judith Issacson Johnson. As a young boy, the family moved to Farnam where he grew up.

Mr. Johnson married Eva Stewart May 22, 1939, in North Platte. They spent the majority of their married live southeast of Elsie on a farm.

Survivors include his wife, Eva, of rural Elsie; five sons, Wayne of Lincoln, Morris of Maywood, Gaylord of Hastings, Douglas and Ron, both of Elsie; three brothers, Donald of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Ardell of Ogallala, and Forrest of Farnam; seven sisters, Rhoda Seay of Alt, Colo., Lorena Kennicutt of Elsie, Aliene Stewart of Lacanada, Calif., Doris Sass and Ruby Walker, both of Ogallala, Dorothy Vlasin of Madrid, and Adelay Bassler of Tehachapi, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services are pending at Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant.
