Loyd W. Hopkins
GOTHENBURG - Loyd W. Hopkins, 96, of Gothenburg, formerly of Farnam, died Dec. 27, 2004, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Long Term.
He was born Sept. 9, 1908, to William Edwin and Maud Gertrude Horn Hopkins at Elwood. He enlisted in the Army on Jan. 18, 1942, and served until Oct. 3, 1945, during World War II.
He farmed for many years south of Farnam and moved into Farnam in 1969. Loyd moved to Long Term at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in 1998.
Mr. Hopkins was a member of the Farnam American Legion 288 and enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include a brother, Earl Hopkins of Farnam; a sister, Irene Hercy of Gothenburg; three sisters-in-law, Alice Hopkins of Palisade, Betty Hopkins of Omaha and Ethel Hopkins of Baker, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: Richard, Oren, Clifford, Harold, Bernard and Leland; a sister, Myrtle; an infant brother; and a brother-in-law, Robert Hercy.
A memorial has been established.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Blase Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg with Pastor Bonnie Linton-Hendrick officiating. The register book will be available to sign Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Farnam Cemetery with military rites by the Farnam American Legion Post 288.
