Emily Katherine (Hueftle) Hess
Emily Katherine (Hueftle) Hess, also known as Katie E. Hess, was born the tenth of eleven children to Karl Thomas and Friedericke (Kiesel) Hueftle on July 17, 1895, at Eustis in Frontier County, Nebraska. She departed this life Tuesday, August 20, 1985, at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma, Nebraska at the age of ninety years, one month and three days. Katie grew to womanhood at Eustis, where she attended rural schools.
On Nov. 29, 1923, Katie was united in marriage to Earl L. Hess at her parents' home in Eustis. To this union came 3 sons, Gilbert, Clifford and Irvin and one daughter, Ruth, were born. Earl and Katie resided on a farm near Eustis until moving to a farm near Farnam in 1937.
Katie's husband Earl preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1951. She continued to reside on the family farm until moving to the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center at Alma in July of 1974.
Katie had been a member of the Farnam United Methodist Church for over 75 years. She was a charter member of the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her husband, Katie was preceded in death by her parents, seven brother; Paul, Albert, Gust, Henry, Charles, Johannes Karl and Ernest Hueftle, and three sisters, Mrs. Pauline Gerken, Mrs. Caroline Fasse and Mrs. Minnie Timm.
She leaves to mourn her passing her three devoted sons, Gilbert and wife Lois of Farnam, Clifford and wife Adelyn of Alma, Irvin and wife Ruth Ann of Farnam; one loving daughter Ruth Junker and husband Alvin of Cozad; eight grandchildren; Glen Hess of Lincoln, Marla Svelha and husband Jerral of Loomis, Scott Hess and wife Saundra of Denison, Texas, Nancy Berry and husband Roger of Farnam, Carol Hess of Franklin, Rodney Junker of Cozad, Karen Welch and husband Mike of Farnam and Keith Junker of Cozad; and four great-grandchildren: Misty, Joshua and Jeremiah Welch and Andrea Berry all of Farnam, other relatives and many friends.
