Obituary

Earl L. Hess was born July 1, 1901 at Winter, Wis., and departed this life at the family home west of Farnam, Nebr., December 26, 1951, at the age of 50 years, 5 months and 25 days. He was the adopted son of Henry and Mattie Hess. His early life was spent in Wisconsin. He came to Nebraska with his parents in 1919 and settled at Eustis.

He was united in marriage to Miss Katie Hueftle at Eustis November 29, 1923, and to this union four children were born. In 1937 they moved to Farnam neighborhood and here hd continued to reside and carry on his farming operations up until his untimely death.

Earl was reared in the Christian faith and was always active in the work of the church. He became a member of the Methodist church when a young man and was serving on the board of trustees and a member of the choir. He was interested in community activities and had a concern for public improvements. He was a good neighbor, a kind and thoughtful husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Gilbert, who is with the armed forces in Alaska, Clifford and Irvin at home, and one daughter, Ruth also at home. An aged mother, Mrs. Mattie Hess at Minneapolis and one sister, Myrtle Hess, of St. Paul, Minnesota also survive him. And many other relatives and friends who will mourn his death.

Funeral services were held at the high school auditorium in Farnam Tuesday, January 1 at 3 o’clock. Rev. Otto A. Quaife, pastor of the Methodist church, was in charge of the service and spoke on the theme “Trust God.” As a text he used “Blessed is the man that maketh the Lord his trust,” Psalms 40:4. Music was furnished by a male quartet composed of Dan McNickle, Dale Montgomery, Joe Hicks and Edwin Hueftle. Mrs. Raymond Smith was at the piano. Casket bearers were Arch Jorgenson, George Vickers, Arthur Bick, Glen Wintermute, Chas. Davis and Herman Rieker. Interment was in Farnam cemetery Olesen funeral home had charge of the arrangements.
